1. Introduction

Chalengy ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Chalengy platform, including our web application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information about challenge hosts ("Hosts") and challenge participants ("Participants") who use the Service.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Hosts: Name, email address, organization or community name, business address and website URL (if applicable), and any verification documents submitted during the onboarding process.
  • Participants: First name and email address provided when joining a challenge, and a mobile phone number where SMS features are offered and you choose to provide one.
  • Communications: Messages, posts, and comments submitted to the challenge whiteboard.
  • Payments: When you join a paid challenge or set up Host payouts, payment details are collected and processed directly by Stripe. We receive transaction records (amount, date, challenge) but never store card numbers or bank credentials.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device type, operating system, and browser type.
  • IP address and approximate location (country/region).
  • Pages visited, features used, and actions taken within the Service.
  • Challenge participation data: check-ins, task completions, streaks, and scores.

2.3 Email, Phone Numbers & SMS

We use email addresses to verify identity via one-time passcode (OTP) and to send challenge-related notifications. Where SMS features are offered and a phone number is provided, we use it solely for verification and, where the Host opts in, challenge-related SMS notifications. We do not sell or rent email addresses or phone numbers to third parties. Message frequency varies by challenge activity. Message and data rates may apply.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity.
  • To deliver the Service, including challenge tracking, leaderboards, and whiteboard features.
  • To send transactional messages (OTP codes, challenge reminders, invitations) by email and, where applicable, SMS.
  • To verify Host identity or organizational affiliation during onboarding.
  • To communicate service updates, security alerts, and support responses.
  • To analyze usage patterns and improve the Service.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

4. SMS Messaging

Chalengy uses SMS messaging to deliver one-time verification codes and, where applicable, challenge notifications. By providing your phone number, you consent to receive these messages.

  • Opt-out: Reply STOP to any SMS message to unsubscribe. You will receive one confirmation message and no further messages.
  • Help: Reply HELP for support information.
  • Rates: Message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier plan.
  • Frequency: Verification codes are sent on demand. Challenge notifications vary by Host settings, typically no more than once per day.
  • Carriers: Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party vendors who help operate the Service (e.g., Stripe for payment processing and payouts, Brevo for transactional email delivery, and Cloudflare for network security and content delivery). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data.
  • Hosts: Your display name, challenge progress, and whiteboard posts may be visible to the host(s) running your challenge and to other opted-in participants.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Chalengy or others.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor entity.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Hosts may delete their account at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. Participant phone numbers and participation records are retained for the duration of the challenge plus 90 days, after which they are anonymized or deleted.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (TLS), hashed passwords, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Opt out of certain data processing activities.
